Summer is the most popular wedding season. The weather is great, everyone is outside more often, people are travelling more, and everyone’s getting married! Do you have a bunch of weddings lined up? If so, not only will this guide help you look suited for the day, but it will leave you feeling cool and ready to party.
1) Dress for the conditions
Is the wedding going to be outdoors during the day or is it going to be held indoors at night. Surely you don’t want to be sweating all day. Not only will being hot ruin your mood, but depending on how much you sweat, it might ruin your outfit too.
I suggest dressing lightly in an outfit that is made of open weave wools such as cotton, linen, and fresco. Trust me, if you choose the right fabrics, it will make a huge difference.
Also keep in mind that on top of the heat, you will likely be moving around all day whether you are walking around all the food, dancing, or convulsing in some deep conversation so it’s important to stay cool and hydrated amidst all of the physical activity.
2) Choose lighter colors and add texture
Summer weddings are usually more casual unless you have received an invitation to a black-tie event. When deciding on the colour of your dress shirt, think pastels and lighter colours. Not only do lighter colours match the season, but it also absorbs less heat and will keep you cooler.
For your suit, if the wedding is in an outdoor place such as a park, beach, or garden ,you can go with earthy shades such as blue, burgundy, cream, or brown. If it’s in the city, going with your lighter grey or blue suits can be a safe bet as well. For your shoes, I would avoid going with your typical black dress shoes and go for white bucks or leather brogues.
4) Be mindful
Are you attending the wedding with a date? If you are, you may want to match your outfit with your dates’ outfit. What does the invitation look like? Weddings usually have themes so it can give you a hint for what you should wear. If the theme is mint and white coloured, you may want to steer clear of that because that’s what the wedding party might will be wearing.
The spotlight is meant to be on the groom and bride so you don’t want to show up as James Bond, and over shadow them. Luckily for you, as long as you’re not rocking a full blown tuxedo, there are plenty of ways for you to stand out. You can do this by choosing the right outfit combinations and by accessorizing.
5) Personalize and accessorize
This is where you can really stand out from the rest. It’s all about the little details. Get creative with your pocket squares. Choosing a different texture and pattern from your suit will make it stand out more. Ties are optional and bowties add a nice quirky ness to your outfit.
5) Get the right fit
Of course you don’t want to look like a clown, but if you followed this guide, you should be just fine. The day is all about celebrating the moment when 2 people vow to spend their lives together and is about having fun! Make sure you get a good tailor, or better yet, get your suits custom made. You want to be able to spend the day taking pictures, hanging out with your friends, and dancing the night away.
And there you have it. Hopefully these tips will help you look your best for those summer weddings. Remember, stay hydrated, be mindful, and most important of all, have fun.
